American History (Day 5)

Looks like Daniel from Wednesday's episode may have cost us another PERFECT BR WEEK...well, has he? We'll find out.

Contestants: Greg, Katie, Rachel

Toss-Up 1: Place
T H E / W _ S _
W I N _

This is where the TV show of the same name took place, and Katie gets THE WEST WING for her first bit of money.

Toss-Up 2: People
C _ _ _
_ O U N C I L

Greg guesses CITY COUNCIL...he's right, so he'll be spinning first.

Featured Prize: Trip to Cancun, Mexico worth $7,500

Jackpot Round: What are you doing?

Greg gets the obvious N for $600. But after buying a pair of I's, he Bankrupts near the big-money wedge (you know, $2,500) to give back the $350 remainder. But his turn comes back very quickly - Katie LaTs out, and Rachel fails with L while on $900 (although she could've landed on the blue 1/2-Car). After Greg lights up a $1,600 R pair and double A's, he finds a pair of P's on the Jackpot. He very quickly goes for the solve...

P _ _ I N _ / _ _ R
A / P _ R _ R A _ _

...and we have our second Jackpot win already! Greg's POSING FOR A PORTRAIT for $3,150 and the $8,800 Jackpot, giving him $11,950 that round!

Wrong Letter: L (Rachel)
Lose a Turn: Katie

Greg: $13,950
Katie: $1,000 T.U. money
Rachel: $0

Mystery Round: Phrase

Katie instantly nabs that MDW with a pair of R's and the pink 1/2-Car with a trio of S's. But her next spin, landing her on $400 (near the Gift Tag), finds her calling a critical C dud. Rachel gets her turn going with a $1,200 T quartet, followed by purchases of FIVE E's and two A's (I goofed with ...THAN OTHERS at first). She next lands on the MW next to the vacant MDW and asks for an L. She's going for it since she's way behind...oh yeah, she made a good move! After buying an I pair, she cashes in seven grand with 2 N's...

S _ _ E / T _ I N _ S
A R E / _ E T T E R
L E _ T / _ N S A I _

...and knows that SOME THINGS ARE BETTER LEFT UNSAID for $7,450 and the $10K Mystery, giving her $17,450 that round! Very nice!

Wrong Letter: C (Katie)

Greg: $13,950
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $17,450

Prize Puzzle: What are you doing? (This should actually be Fun & Games, BTW)

(A "null cycle" was edited out of this round. This occurs when three turns are lost in a row, without any cash or prizes being lost. In this case, Rachel LaTed out, Greg Bankrupted near $3,500, and Katie called a strange dud of C while on $300.)

Rachel picks up the blue 1/2-Car with a 3 R's and FPs a pair of S's (I know the first two words already). She also gets $2,400 from three T's. But after buying a pair of E's, she calls a minor roadblock in M while on $400 (slipped past the GT). After that it's all Greg. He picks up an $1,800 pair of N's (although he could've picked up the GT) and gets a whopping FIVE A's before finding $600 from 2 H's, the WC from 2 P's, and $550 from an L (he wanted to say that letter instead when he landed on the WC) before the board reads:

S P L A S H I N _
A R _ _ N _ / A T
T H E / _ A T E R
P A R _

He'll be SPLASHING AROUND THE WATER PARK on his $6,000 trip to ORLANDO, FLORIDA; in addition to $2,700, he's earned $8,700 that round.

Wrong Letter: M (Rachel)

Greg: $22,650 cash and Florida + WC
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $17,450

Toss-Up 3: Food & drink
P I T T E _
P R _ N _ S

Rachel eats up these PITTED PRUNES to break the $20K mark.

Round 4: Fun & games (so THAT'S why they didn't use it in R3, oh well)

Rachel lights up a $400 L and 2 E's, but runs into LaT trouble...

_ _ _ _ L E
_ _ _ _ _ _ E

...and this $1,500 Final Spin will decide between her and Greg. Speaking of said red player, he lights up triple B's...

B _ B B L E
_ _ _ _ _ _ E

...and can buy a BUBBLE MACHINE with another $4,500 in his pockets!

Lose a Turn (before the Final Spin): Rachel

Greg: $27,150 cash and Florida + WC
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $20,450

Maingame Winnings: A respectable $48,600!

Bonus Round: Proper name

Let's see if we've got a 4-1 week. Greg lands on the E in AMERICA'S (appropriate landing).

RSTLNE please:

_ _ _ _ / _ N _

He's about to kill it with YKCO and his WC pick of D...

Y O K O / O N O

Sorry Daniel...Greg nails YOKO ONO (John Lennon's wife) for another $40,000 and a final total of $67,150 cash and trip! Nice job!

We gave away $308,250 this week alone! Just as good as last week!

American History (Day 4)

Contestants: Tony, Katie, Rachel

Toss-Up 1: On the map
_ U P _ N _
C _ R C _ _

Tony's wrong with LUPINE CIRCLE...

_ U P O N T
C _ R C _ E

...while Rachel steals DUPONT CIRCLE. Never heard of that place.

Toss-Up 2: Places
D I V _ _ _ E
_ _ S _ A _ R A N _ _

Tony blows it again with DIVIBLE E-...

D I V E _ S E
_ _ S _ A U R A N T _

...while Katie nails DIVERSE RESTAURANTS for 2 grand.

Featured Prize: Trip to Brazil, $7,000

Jackpot Round: On the map (again)

Katie instantly hits the MDW's left-side Bankrupt. It's all Rachel afterwards: she finds a $600 T, a single A, a dud of R on FP, a quartet of I's, a trio of N's on $900, and the final vowels of 2 O's before we show you this board...

_ I N _ I N N A T I
O _ I O

It's a haven for history, and Rachel knows it's CINCINNATI, OHIO to move up by $2,550.

Bankrupt: Katie
Unclaimed Jackpot: $7,000 (the exact same value of the featured prize)

Tony: $0
Katie: $2,000 T.U. money
Rachel: $3,550

Mystery Round: People

Rachel instantly duds out with L on $600. Tony then redeems himself with a $600 pair of T's, two S's for the Gift Tag, a quartet of E's, a $600 N, and an $800 V (even though he just slipped past the Brazil getaway)...

_ _ S E N T E E
V _ T E _ S

...and he's NOT one of those ABSENTEE VOTERS, as he's earned $1,750 and the Gift Tag, a Fountain from Washington, DC, for $2,750 that round.

Wrong Letter: L (Rachel)

Tony: $2,750 cash and fountain
Katie: $2,000
Rachel: $3,550

Prize Puzzle: Things

Tony starts out with a $7K pair of S's, but Bankrupts between $600 and $900 to give that money right back. Dang it. Katie collects $900 from triple R's and a trio of T's to triple that amount, but after buying an E, she learns of the only bad vowel - and oddly, it's the A. Rachel then FPs an I and gets $400 from an N. After purchasing four O's...

O _ T _ O O R
_ I N T E R
S _ O R T S

...she wins only $150, but she'll enjoy some OUTDOOR WINTER SPORTS on her $5,500 trek to QUEBEC, CANADA, giving her $5,650 that round.

Bankrupt: Tony
Wrong Letter: A (Rachel)

Tony: $2,750
Katie: $2,000
Rachel: $9,200 cash and Canada

Toss-Up 3: Thing
P _ _ L _ C
A _ _ E _ _

Tony has completed a TOSS-UP UN-SWEEP, since he BLOWS IT BIG TIME with PUBLIC ANIMAL! Grr...

P U B L I C
A _ _ E S _

A lot of buildings have this, and Katie knows it's PUBLIC ACCESS, so her 2 grand is now 5.

Round 4: Fictional characters (a 3-liner)

Katie instantly nabs $10,000 from 2 R's! She buys 4 A's and gets a $300 L before we show you this board...

R _ _ _ _ / &
A _ R _ A _
_ A L _ _ A

...and we now have a $1,800 Final Spin.

Katie - 1 I.
Rachel - 1 N.
Tony - 2 B's!

Can Tony redeem himself again?

R _ _ _ _ / &
A _ R _ A N
B A L B _ A

Nope, he BLOWS IT AGAIN with RU-, so $3,600 might go bye-bye. Katie then gets the last vowel of 2 O's...

R O _ _ _ / &
A _ R I A N
B A L B O A

They're a father-son boxing duo, and Katie nails ROCKY (the dad) & ADRIAN (the son) BALBOA for $10,050 and the win!

Disqualification: Tony's ridiculous missolve

Tony: $2,750 (he deserves last place)
Katie: $15,050
Rachel: $9,200

Maingame Winnings: $27,000

Bonus Round: Thing

Katie's potential prize comes from the C in AMERICA'S.

RSTLNE is generous:

_ _ _ S L E _

She knows it like I do, going with DCGO to complete the board...

D O G S L E D

...and here's something nice to put into her DOGSLED - another 30 large, giving her a $45,050 paycheck on the night! Nicely done, ma'am!

American History (Day 3)

Conetstants: Daniel, Tony, Rachel

Toss-Up 1: People
_ O _ _ E _
_ R _ _ _ D _ N _ _

Daniel knows about some FORMER PRESIDENTS, so he's earned $1,000.

Toss-Up 2: Phrase
_ _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ E / _ _ _ E F

HAIL TO THE CHIEF, everyone - Daniel's 2 for 2.

American Prize on the Wheel: Trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania worth $5K

Jackpot Round: Event

It's all Daniel this round. He collects a $600 N, a pair of I's, a T worth $500 (near the MDW), a trio of O's, an R for the blue 1/2-Car, a trio of A's, an L for the Philly getaway, and an E to knock out the vowels...

_ R O _ O T I O N A L
_ I _ E A _ A _

...and this show may not be a PROMOTIONAL GIVEAWAY, but he's earned $600 and the trip, totaling $5,600 that round.

DOMINATION!

Unclaimed Jackpot: $6,600

Daniel: $8,600 cash and Philadelphia
Tony and Rachel: $0 each, yet to spin

Mystery Round: Food & drink

Tony can't capitalize on the MW near the MDW with a L. Rachel then finds a $300 R, but misses with an M on the MDW. (Isn't M what "million" starts with? Odd.) Daniel lands on the same MW that Tony just landed on and asks for a T. He turns down $1K...for a zero-dollar refund. Tony asks for a $500 S, an E pair, and an A trio, but he Bankrupts to give up...well, nothing. Rachel then buys a pair of I's and finds a $900 trio of N's, but her Y call on $300 just won't work. Daniel then picks up the MDW with a pair of C's and $1,200 with an H pair, then buys the last two vowels - an O pair and a single U - before getting a grand from 2 D's and ringing in...

S _ I N A C H
A N D
A R T I C H O _ E
_ O N D U E

...and eating some SPINACH AND ARTICHOKE FONDUE for $1,700 and the MDW!

Wrong Letters: L (Tony), M (Rachel), Y (Rachel)
Bankrupts: Daniel, Tony

Daniel: $10,300 + MDW
Tony and Rachel: $0 each

Prize Puzzle: What are you doing?

Rachel gets a $500 R and a $1,600 pair of T's. After buying 2 E's and a single and obvious A, she picks up the Gift Tag with an L and buys an I. After getting the obvious N (worth $800) out of the way, she buys an O...

T O _ R I N _ / A
T E _ _ L E

...she'll be TOURING A TEMPLE on her $8,000 trip to ATHENS, GREECE! Along with her Gift Tag and $1,900, she's earned $10,900 and the lead (for now)! Sorry Daniel, no sweep for you...

DOMINATION #2!

Daniel: $10,300 + MDW
Tony: $0
Rachel: $10,900 cash, gift tag, and Greece

Toss-Up 3: On the map
D _ _ _ _ _
_ _ I O

Daniel quickly IDs DAYTON, OHIO to sweep the T.U.'s and move back in the lead with $13,300.

Round 4: Fun & games (a 3-liner)

Daniel starts out with a $500 (vacant 1/2-Car spot) T and a pair of N's worth $1,600. But after buying a trio of E's, he hears the bells ring...

T _ _ _ E _ _ N _
_ _ _ E _ _ _ N
_ _ _ E

...and consonants are worth $1,300. This will decide if Daniel gets to play for the million.

Daniel - 1 R.
Tony - No C.
Rachel - 2 S's!
Daniel - 2 L's!

T R _ _ E L _ N _
S _ L E S _ _ N
_ _ _ E

Surprisingly, Daniel is INCORRECT with TRAVELING SALESMAN GAME, so he may have let $5,750 and the win slip away. After Tony takes a free A trio, does he make the house minimum solve?

T R A _ E L _ N _
S A L E S _ A N
_ _ _ E

Nope.

Rachel - No D.
Daniel - 1 M.

Maybe Daniel's got it now...

T R A _ E L _ N _
S A L E S M A N
_ _ _ E

But he doesn't solve it for $7,050! Darn. Tony then lights up the I...

T R A _ E L I N _
S A L E S M A N
_ _ _ E

...and tells a TRAVELING SALESMAN JOKE for his only grand on the night.

Wrong Letters: C (Tony), D (Rachel)
Disqualification: Daniel's missolve

Daniel: $13,300 + MDW!
Tony: $1,000
Rachel: $10,900

Maingame Winnings: $25,200

Million-Dollar Bonus Round #3: Phrase

We have yet another future millionare in our sights. Daniel lands on the 2nd A if AMERICA'S.

He'll need some real help with the first word after we see RSTLNE:

_ _ _ _
L _ N _ _ _ _ E

He goes with CKPI...but nothing appears. And within a second, he GIVES UP. He didn't show enough BODY LANGUAGE to win...

...40 grand, so $13,300 is what he leaves with.

American History (Day 2)

Contestants: Patrick, Katie, Greg

Toss-Up 1: Living thing
_ _ A R L E _
O A K

Greg gets SCARLET OAK, so $1,000 is his.

Toss-Up 2: Landmark
T _ D A _
_ A S I N

This should've been a Place, but Katie nails TIDAL BASIN anyway.

Featured Prize: Trip to St. Lucia worth $6,500

Jackpot Round: Phrase

Katie gets things going with a $5K pair of R's, a $300 S, a FP M, and a trio of T's for the Gift Tag (why she didn't call those on $2,500 is beyond me). But after buying E and A pairs, she Bankrupts between $600 and $900 to lose $5,300 and the Gift Tag. Ouch. Greg gets a $550 L and a pair of I's, but then the MDW's right-side Bankrupt takes away the $300 difference. Patrick asks for a $300 N, but gets the same Bankrupt as Katie. We come back to her, as she calls a C for $550 and purchases the last vowel of 2 O's...

_ L O O _ / _ S
T _ I C _ E R
T _ A N
_ A T E R

...and realizes that BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER for another $700.

Bankrupts: Everyone (one for each player)! Yikes...
Unclaimed Jackpot: $9,700

Patrick: $0
Katie: $3,000
Greg: $1,000 Toss-Up money

Mystery Round: What are you doing?

Greg instantly says S for stopper on $500. Patrick asks for a $900 N and the obvious G for the St. Lucia trip. After asking for a $500 M, he inserts the obvious pair of I's and gets a $300 R. But after asking for an A, he buys a worthless E, likely costing him $950 and the trip. Katie then tries a pair of T's on $900, nabs the MDW with a C...

C _ T T I N G
M _ / _ A I R

...and I'm NOT CUTTING MY HAIR at this moment, but she's earning that amount and (temporarily) sparkly green wedge (you know, the MDW)!

Wrong Letters: S (Greg), E (Patrick)

Patrick: $0
Katie: $4,800 + MDW
Greg: $1,000

Prize Puzzle: Living things

Patrick tries to win a trip this time, but while on $600, he can't find an S (I thought the category was plural, guys?). Katie goes on a roll with a $900 R, but it's stopped by a negative N while on $300. Greg nets a $600 pair of T's, but the O stops him. Patrick then looks for an L and finds one on $300, but after purchasing a quartet of E's, he Bankrupts near $3,500. Katie then gets an A and a FP pair of I's to close out the vowels...

_ _ I T E - T A I L E _
_ E E R

...and with $650, she'll go see some WHITE-TAILED DEER on her $5,500 trip to QUEBEC, CANADA! She's earned $6,150 cash and Canada that round!

Wrong Letters: S (Patrick), N (Katie), O (Greg)
Bankrupt: Patrick

Patrick: $0
Katie: $10,950 + MDW
Greg: $1,000

Toss-Up 3: Place
_ _ I S T _ _
_ T O P

Patrick goes to a WHISTLE STOP to finally get on the board.

Round 4: Phrase

Patrick nabs a $300 T and a single E before finding an N for $500 (near the empty MDW). But it's Final Spin time...

_ E T / _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _ N

...and consonants are worth $1,450.

Patrick - 2 R's!
Katie - 1 A.
Greg - 1 L.
Patrick - 1 Y.

L E T / Y _ _ R
_ A _ R / _ _ _ N

Patrick, LET YOUR HAIR DOWN - you've just won another $4,900.

Patrick: $7,900
Katie: $10,950 + MDW!
Greg: $1,000

Maingame Winnings: Just $19,850

Million-Dollar Bonus Round #2: Event

Let's see if Katie will be a millionaire. Her all-important spin lands her on the...whoops, I forgot! Darn it. Oh well...

RSTLNE, please:

_ _ _ E / R _ N

She obviously knows it like I do, calling MHCO...

H O M E / R _ N

Let's see what this HOME RUN is worth...

...not the million, but 45 grand! She leaves with $55,950 cash and Canada! Well done, ma'am!

American History (Day 1)

Well, last week was one you will never forget. We had our first PERFECT BONUS ROUND WEEK of the season and gave away $334,350 in cash and prizes! Can we follow up on that?

According to Jim, "from our nation's capital, Washington, DC, here are the stars of our show..." Pat says to Vanna, "Hello from our nation's capital. See you later."

You guessed it - we're celebrating our "American History" on the Washington, DC set.

Contestants: Greg, Katie, Rachel

Toss-Up 1: Person
J U _ I _ R
S E N A T _ R

Greg tries to blurt out the answer, but it's Katie who finishes first with JUNIOR SENATOR.

Toss-Up 2: Living thing
W O O D
T H _ _ S _

Rachel solves WOOD THRUSH (a type of bird, credit to Google) to get on the board.

Featured Prize: $8,000 trip to Venice, Italy

Jackpot Round: Phrase

Rachel starts out with a $400 (near LaT) R and a couple of S's for the Gift Tag. But then she fails to add the Venice trip to her cardboard collection by calling a lackluster L. As luck would have it, Greg would pick up the Venice vacation with a T! And after lighting up a pair of N's on Jackpot...

_ N / T _ _ / _ _ _ _
_ _ / _ _ R _ N _ S S

...he nails this puzzle BIG TIME for the first Jackpot win of the season!!! Greg's NOT ON THE EDGE OF DARKNESS, as he's won a grand, a $6,900 Jackpot, and the Venice vacation, totaling $15,900 that round alone! Nicely done, sir!

Wrong Letter: L (Rachel)

Greg: $15,900 cash and Venice
Katie: $1,000 Toss-Up bucks
Rachel: $2,000 T.U. money

Mystery Round: Classic TV

Greg continues his run of luck with a $300 T and a $400 (near the empty Gift Tag) S. After that, he finds five L's on $800! He also fins a $1,100 pair of H's and a pair of B's on the MW near LaT. But he quickly goes for the solve rather than risking it...

T H _ / B _ _ _ _ L _
H _ L L B _ L L _ _ S

...and he IDs THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES for $7,800 in cold hard cash!

DOMINATION!

Greg: $23,700
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $2,000

Prize Puzzle: Phrase

Katie finally gets to spin. She starts out with an $800 pair of R's, but then she buys a bad vowel (probably the A). Rachel then Bankrupts on the MDW's left side. More luck for Greg, however - he picks up the MDW with an S! After finding a $300 T and a $1,600 pair of N's, he's going for his next quick solve...

S _ _ _ T _ _ N _
_ _ R / _ _ _ R _ _ N _

...and here's SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE to enjoy - Greg solves this puzzle for $1,900 and a $7,500 trip to ARUBA, earning him $9,400 that round! And don't forget, he has that MDW!

Wrong Letter: A (Katie)
Bankrupt: Rachel

Greg: $33,100 + MDW
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $2,000

Toss-Up 3: Living thing (a 3-liner, BTW)
_ L A C K -
T _ R _ _ _ _ D
S P A R R O W

Katie catches this (yet another bird) BLACK-THROATED SPARROW to quadruple up.

Round 4: Phrase (another 3-liner)

Katie starts out with a dud of S on $300. And Rachel calls a strange dud of C on $300. After Greg calls a pair of T's worth a grand (near the empty Jackpot), the bells ring...

_ _ T / _ _
_ _ T / _ / _ _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _

...and consonants are worth $1,500 (near the empty MDW).

Greg - 2 N's!
Katie - 1 R.
Rachel - 5 E's!

Does Rachel solve it with this showing?

_ E T / _ E
_ E T / _ / _ E N
_ N _ / _ _ _ E R

Nope. Greg then asks for a trio of P's...

_ E T / _ E
_ E T / _ / P E N

...and LET ME GET A PEN A PAPER and write this down - he just won in blowout fashion with another $8,500!

Wrong Letter: C (Rachel)

Greg: $41,600 + MDW!
Katie: $4,000 Toss-Up bucks
Rachel: $2,000

Million-Dollar Bonus Round #1: Around the house

Will Greg be our first-ever millionaire? He lands on the R in AMERICA'S.

He'll need a lot of help on the first word thanks to RSTLNE...

Well, it's time to wrap up an up-and-down week of awesomeness! And I didn't mention it last episode, but we're on the verge of a PERFECT BONUS ROUND WEEK!!! Will it happen tonight?

Tonight's Potential Perfectos: Mark, Katie, Rachel

Toss-Up 1: Food & drink

Katie guesses PEANUTS IN THE SHELL...and she's right.

Toss-Up 2: Thing

Mark does a VICTORY CHEER after learning he's just won $2,000.

Featured Prize: Trip to the Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park, $6,000

Jackpot Round: Things

Mark finds an $1,800 pair of S's, but he's going for a very quick solve...

QUICK FIRST-EVER DOMINATION!

Unclaimed Jackpot: $5,900

Mark: $3,800
Katie: $1,000 Toss-Up money
Rachel: $0

Mystery Round: Thing

Katie plays catch-up with Mark by landing on the MW near LaT and calling an S. She flips it...but goes right back down to zero. Rachel can't find an R on $400. This time, after making an impressive R1 solve, Mark promises he's going all the way. He finds a $600 pair of T's, buys 2 E's, picks up the pink 1/2-Car with an N, and finds $400 from an M. After buying a trio of I's, he gets a $300 D and clears the vowel board with an O. He picks up the Wild Card with an H and collects $500 from an F. And staying true to his word, he fills the whole board with a $1,200 pair of C's. The board reads:

S C I E N T I F I C
M E T H O D

Mark must have had a "clever" SCIENTIFIC METHOD for playing that way; in any case, he's earned $2,750 and his cardboard.

Wrong Letter: R (Rachel)
Bankrupt: Katie

Mark: $6,550 + WC + 1/2-Car
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $0

Prize Puzzle: What are you doing?

Rachel finds a $400 S and a $1,000 (near the MDW) pair of T's. After buy an E trio and an A pair, she goes for 2 L's on $300, but doesn't get any more on $700 with an R. Mark gets a $500 G and a $1,200 N pair...before getting the pink 1/2-Car (his second plate) with a pair of C's! And he's nervous about this, but he's going for the solve...

E A T _ N G
T _ E / L _ C A L
C _ _ S _ N E

With $2,700, Mark can go EATING THE LOCAL CUISINE in BARBADOS! Not only that, he's the first car winner of the season, the new owner of a $10,000 Sedan! With the vacation valued at $6,500, he's earned $19,200 cash and prizes that round!

Wrong Letter: R (Rachel)

Mark: $25,750 cash, Caribbean, and car + WC
Katie: $1,000
Rachel: $0

Toss-Up 3: Phrase

Here's something HOT OFF THE GRILL - a quadrupler for Katie.

Round 4: Place

Katie starts out with a $1,500 (near the empty MDW) trio of R's, but strikes out with S on $450. After Rachel picks a wrong letter of C on $300, it's Final Spin time...

_ _ R _ _ R _
_ _ R _ _ _ _ _

...and consonants are worth $1,300 each. Mark asks for a pair of T's...

_ _ R _ _ R T
T _ R _ _ _ _ _

...and nails AIRPORT TERMINAL for $2,600 and the blowout win!

Wrong Letters: S (Katie), C (Rachel)

Mark: $28,350 + WC
Katie: $4,000 Toss-Up money
Rachel: $1,000 consolation

Maingame Winnings: $33,350

Perfect Bonus Round Week Alert: Places

Will Mark give us a good ending? He lands on the S in SPIN (he had a medium-strong spin, by the way).

RSTLNE fill in nearly half the puzzle:

R _ _
_ _ _ S E S

He's gonna kill it with WHCO and P (his WC pick)...

R O W
H O _ S E S

...and we have our first PERFECT BONUS ROUND WEEK of the season already!!! Mark doesn't live in any ROW HOUSES, but he's earned another 35 large and leaves us with $63,350 cash and prizes! Thank you, so much, Mark!

Grand Opening (Day 4)

Last night was quite ugly. We had a dozen wrong letters and missed opportunities, but Katie still walked away with $49,650 cash and Canada. Let's hope we have a better night tonight.

Contestants: Daniel, Tony, Rachel

Toss-Up 1: Food & drink
H O T / A P P _ E
C I D _ _

Rachel drinks up some HOT APPLE CIDER for her first grand.

Toss-Up 2: Person
C _ _ L D _ O O D
F R I E N _

Tony's NOT my CHILDHOOD FRIEND, but he's earned the right to spin first!

Featured Prize: Trip to Scotland worth $9,500!

Jackpot Round: Thing

Tony can't find a T on $300. Rachel then asks for a $900 R, but buys a bad I. From here, it's all Daniel. He collects a $1,800 pair of S's (although he repeated the T; repeats are allowed) and FPs a pair of E's. After purchasing an A, he picks up the Scotland trip with a N before buying the last vowel of O. And after collecting a $1,000 (near the MDW) pair of G's...

G E O G R A _ _ _
_ E S S O N

...he passes his GEOGRAPHY LESSON for $2,300 and the trip, earning him $11,800 that round! Good job!

Wrong Letters: T (Tony), I (Rachel)
Unclaimed Jackpot: $8,100

Daniel: $11,800 cash and Scotland
Tony: $2,000 Toss-Up money
Rachel: $1,000 T.U. bucks

Mystery Round: Living thing

Rachel hopes to catch up to Daniel, but $300 won't give her an R (the first letter of her name, by the way). Daniel then lands on the MW next to LaT and finds a pair of T's. He flips it...whoops. Tony finds a $400 S and a pair of E's before calling an early dud of C on the blue 1/2-Car. Rachel then slips past $3,500 and Bankrupts, so we're coming back to Daniel. He finds an $1,100 pair of N's and collects the blue 1/2-Car with a B. After buying 2 A's, he picks up the WC with a B and calls the last consonant of L while on $500. The board now shows this...

T _ B E T A N
S P A N _ E L

Daniel DOESN'T own a TIBETAN SPANIEL, but he's $1,850 richer and has temporary possession of that Wild Card and a 1/2-Car.

Wrong Letters: R (Rachel), C (Tony)
Bankrupts: Daniel, Rachel

Daniel: $13,650 + WC + 1/2-Car
Tony: $2,000
Rachel: $1,000

Prize Puzzle: Thing

Daniel starts out with a surprising dud of T while on $400. Tony picks up the Gift Tag with a trio of R's and collects $600 from an S. But after buying 3 E's and 2 A's, he hits the dreaded white space. Lose a Turn, to be exact. Rachel then finds a $600 pair of N's and a pair of I's before going for own trip...

R E _ R E S _ I N _
_ _ E A N / A I R

...and with $350, she'll be feeling the REFRESHING OCEAN AIR of beautiful ARUBA! That vacation is worth $7,500, so she's earned $7,850 that round.

Wrong Letter: T (Daniel)
Lose a Turn: Tony

Daniel: $13,650 + WC
Tony: $2,000
Rachel: $8,850 cash and Caribbean

Toss-Up 3: Things (hey, enough with those!)
A _ T _ O N
F I G U R _ S

Rachel buys a $3K set of ACTION FIGURES, so she's moved closer to Daniel with that solve.

Round 4: Landmark

Rachel and Daniel hit LaT back-to-back. Tony grabs the obvious S for $500 (near the empty MDW), but time's ticking...

_ _ _ _ _ _ ' S
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _

...and this will decide between Daniel and Rachel...consonants are worth $1,600 each (a Bankrupt next to $5K was edited out). But Tony's not out of it yet.

Tony - 2 T's!
Rachel - No R.
Daniel - 4 N's!
Tony - 3 L's!

Can Tony solve it with this setup?

L _ N _ _ N ' S
N _ T T _ N _ / _ _ L L

Nope. Rachel then BLOWS IT with an E. Daniel's next with the first letter of his name (a D)...

L _ N D _ N ' S
N _ T T _ N _ / _ _ L L

...and this is a fitting puzzle for this guy - while on his Scotland vacation, he could visit LONDON'S NOTTING HILL. Well, guess what - Rachel's mistakes have cost her the game. Wow. But Daniel wins it with another $8,000 in his pockets!

Wrong Letters: R (Rachel), E (Rachel)
Lose a Turn: Rachel, Daniel

Daniel: $21,650 + WC
Tony: $2,000
Rachel: $11,850

Maingame Winnings: Better than last night - $35,500

Bonus Round: On the map

After surviving a tight match, Daniel lands on the R in AMERICA'S.

This puzzle is a three-liner, so there's a lot of RSTLNE...

_ _ _ R L E S T _ N
_ E S T
_ _ R _ _ N _ _

This guy doesn't need his Wild Card! He's going with CHVI and his WC pick of W...

C H _ R L E S T _ N
W E S T
V I R _ I N I _

...and he nails CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA for $30K, giving him $21,650 cash and Scotland on the night! Well done!
